Flathead
Lake
Flathead Lake is the largest freshwater lake
west of the Mississippi River, and the largest
lake in the state of Montana. The lake is one of
the cleanest of its size and type in the world.
Located in the northwest corner of the state, 7
miles south of Kalispell, it is approximately 30
miles long, 16 miles wide, and covers 191.5
square miles. Flathead Lake is 30 miles
southwest of Glacier National Park. Two scenic
highways parallel the lake. On the west side, US
Highway 93, and Route 35 on the east wind along
the curving shorelines.
Both highways offer incredible views of very
different styles. Route 93 provides sweeping
views of rolling hills, lake waters and
expansive skies. Route 35 winds along the
famous
orchards of the area, providing travelers with
an opportunity to sample local fruit from
roadside stands.
