Even
though we had lived here for a couple of years and seen
the red tour buses traversing Going-to-the-Sun Road many
times, we had never ridden in one.
Then Jay's parents came
to visit from New York, and a trip in a 'Jammer' seemed
like the perfect activity for everyone to enjoy.
Known as 'Scenic Interpretive Red Bus Tours,' the
service is offered by Glacier Park Inc, and invites
visitors to travel back in time in a vintage motor coach
built by the White Motor Company.
The roll-back canvas tops allow for amazing views, and
if there's a chill in the air don't worry, each motor
coach comes equipped with monogrammed wool blankets.
As you'll see from the enclosed photos, everyone had a
great time, and this was toward the end of the season as
fall colors and cooler temperatures foreshadowed the
impending snows.
Even in the full bloom of summer be sure to bring extra
layers, the weather in Northwest Montana is
unpredictable and always changing. Don't forget
sunscreen and binoculars, you never know when that brown
or white lump far off in the distance is a goat or bear!
We recommend this activity for a variety of reasons; the
tours allow you to see amazing Glacier Park views
without being distracted by the driving, or the driver.
The motor coaches are comfortable and pretty easy to
enter and exit, so grandma and toddler alike can enjoy
the ride. And best of all, the tour drivers are well
versed in a variety of Glacier Park topics and points of
interest, making them your private all-access library to
everything Glacier.
Perhaps one of the best things about these tours is
their variety. You can choose to tour from the east,
west or north east side of the park, or try them all.
