The
50 mile road spans the Continental Divide and connects
the east side of Glacier National Park with the west
side. It has some of the best scenery you’ll ever see
and it gets better every time you drive it.
The Park attracts about 1.7 million visitors annually,
with over 475,000 vehicles traveling the Road between
June and October each year when the Road is open.
Usually the road opens sometime during the first two
weeks in June. The earliest opening date is May 16 and
the latest opening date is June 23. The road closes in
Late October unless snow dictates that it gets closed
earlier.
Completed in 1932 after 11 years of construction the
road is a National Historic Landmark. A MUST SEE for
anyone visiting the park!
NOTE: Because of the steep, narrow nature of
the road vehicle length limitations are in
effect on the 24-mile section between Avalanche
Campground, west of Logan Pass, and Sun Point to
the east.
A maximum vehicle length of 21 feet or a maximum
width of 8 feet, including mirrors, is allowed
on the Going-to-the- Sun Road. All other
vehicles must use an alternate route. Shuttle
service and trailer parking are available.
