The
Trail:
The trail begins in the St Mary Valley. Plenty of trees
keep in shady and cool. As you hike in the trees you can
hear Rose Creek down to your left. You'll pass very cool
places to stop and have a snack by a pool or waterfall
along this trail. Take your time and enjoy. We had lunch
about 2.25 miles in at a creek crossing with a wooden
bridge, it was very cool.

When you get out of the woods the terrain is very rocky,
you can see Goat Mountain to your left. You will pass
Otokomi Campground before you get to the lake.

Keep your eye out as you hike along the lake outlet, the
water is crystal clear and the fish are plentiful. You
can see them with ease.
The hike out is predominantly downhill and on a really
hot day you can cool off in the Rose Creek.

Don't Forget:
Water is the number one cause of fatalities in
Glacier National Park. Please use extreme caution near
water. Swift, cold glacial streams and rivers,
moss-covered rocks, and slippery logs all present
dangers. Children, photographers, boaters, rafters,
swimmers, and fishermen have fallen victim to these
rapid, frigid streams and deep glacial lakes. Avoid
wading in or fording swift streams. Never walk, play, or
climb on slippery rocks and logs, especially around
waterfalls. When boating, don’t stand up or lean over
the side, and always wear a lifejacket.
